ELEVEN MISSING MINUTES: A Novel of Betrayal, Survival, and a Daughter’s Love

The intruder lunged forward, trying to force the syringe into the port, but Nathan’s eyes flew open. Driven by pure survival instinct, Nathan grabbed the intruder’s wrists with both hands, twisting them violently away from his line.

CRASH!

The IV pole toppled over, shattering a glass water pitcher on the nightstand.

The door burst open as Officer Diaz rushed into the room with his weapon drawn. "POLICE! DON'T MOVE!"

The intruder panicked, shoving Nathan back onto the mattress, kicking the shattered glass across the floor, and bolting toward the private bathroom door connecting to the adjacent room.

Diaz gave chase, vaulting over the tipped nightstand. "HALT!"

The intruder slammed the connecting door shut, throwing the deadbolt from the other side. By the time Diaz kicked the wooden door off its hinges, the connecting room was empty—the hallway access door swinging wildly into the corridor.

"Are you okay?!" Clara cried, rushing to Nathan’s side, pulling Ellie tightly into her lap.

Nathan sat up, gasping for air, his hand clutching his forearm where he had grappled with the attacker.

Detective Miller stepped into the room three minutes later, taking in the broken glass and the fallen IV pole. He knelt near the threshold of the bathroom, pointing his flashlight at the floorboards.

A small smear of fresh, dark blood glistened on a sharp shard of the broken glass pitcher.

"The intruder cut their hand when they knocked the pitcher over," Miller observed, pulling a sterile swab and a sample vial from his pocket.

He carefully swabbed the blood sample and handed it to Diaz.

"Run this through the precinct's priority DNA lab immediately," Miller ordered, his eyes dark with cold determination. "Whoever tried to finish Nathan off tonight just left their signature on the floor."
