Chapter 17 - THE UNTOUCHABLE DYNASTY

Late that night, the grand dining hall at the Citadel was quiet once again.
The high arched windows were open slightly, allowing a warm spring breeze to carry the clean scent of the harbor through the historic stone hall. The long oak table was set with fine china and crystal, silver candelabras casting soft golden flames against the dark wood.
All six of them were gathered for dinner—Dominic at the head, Elena to his right, with Luca, Gabriel, Matteo, and Nico filling the surrounding seats.
Doc Mercer joined them near the hearth, sipping a glass of aged brandy, watching the family with a satisfied, quiet smile. The jagged scars across Elena’s back had healed under his care into pale, clean lines—hidden beneath her black silk evening gown, a silent reminder of a past that could no longer touch her.
Matteo raised his glass of red wine, the crystal catching the light of the candles. "To the Riverfront Civic Plaza. And to its sole proprietor."
"To Elena," Luca added, raising his glass alongside Gabriel, Nico, and Doc Mercer.
Dominic raised his glass last, looking directly into his sister's eyes. The stern, unyielding lines of his face softened with an enduring, unspoken devotion.
"To my sister," Dominic said softly, his voice resonant in the quiet room. "Who proved that gentle hands can build what cruel hands can only destroy."
"To the family," Elena said, touching her glass against Dominic’s.
"To the family," all five brothers echoed in unison, their deep voices rising together, solid and permanent as the stone walls around them.
Elena took a slow sip of her wine, looking around the table at the five men who had torn an empire to pieces to protect her honor, and who had given her the strength to build an even greater one in its place.

She looked out the high window toward the illuminated skyline of the city—her city now. The Cole name was gone, erased like dust in the wind, its power liquidated and its cruelty forgotten.
She leaned back against her chair, feeling a deep, unshakeable peace settle into her soul. She was no longer a victim fleeing the dark. She was a Moretti, standing in the light, surrounded by an unbroken line of power that no one on earth would ever dare to challenge again.
