Chapter 13 - THE SUNNYVIEW SHOWDOWN

At 8:45 AM, Willa’s battered Honda screeched to a halt in front of the Sunnyview Memory Care facility.

She didn't bother locking the door as she sprinted through the automatic glass entrance, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The front lobby smelled of commercial disinfectant and floor wax.

Behind the reception desk stood Administrator Grant Allison—the exact man who, three years ago, had pressured the hospital review board to ruin her nursing career to protect St. Ambrose Medical Center’s liability.

Allison was leaning over the counter, handing a clipboard to a pair of county transport orderlies.

“Make sure she’s processed into Ward 4 by noon,” Allison instructed smoothly, adjusting his wire-rimmed glasses. “The Kane account has been officially reallocated.”

“You’re not moving her anywhere,” a sharp, icy voice echoed across the lobby.

Allison froze. He turned around, his smug expression faltering as Willa stepped through the doorway, her eyes blazing with a fury that brooked no argument.

“Willa Hayes?” Allison sneered, recovering his composure with a patronizing chuckle. “Well, well. Look what crawled out from the gutter. I hear you married into money, but it seems you’re still entirely out of your depth.”

“Sign the cancellation order, Allison,” Willa demanded, stepping right up to the counter until she was inches from his face. “Or I will personally ensure that every fraudulent signature you forged on my hospital termination papers three years ago lands on the desk of the Illinois State Attorney General before lunch.”

Allison’s face drained of color. His eyes widened behind his glasses. “You... you don't have proof of— juguetes rotos—you have nothing!”

Slowly, deliberately, Willa pulled the encrypted flash drive from her pocket and tapped it against the Formica counter.

“Everett Kane’s private legal server is currently plugged into a secure military terminal,” Willa lied with absolute, chilling conviction. “Inside are financial ledgers detailing every hush-money payment St. Ambrose received from Kane Freight between 2021 and 2024. Your name is on page four, Allison. Do you want to test whether I’m bluffing?”

The administrator’s hands began to shake. He looked at the transport orderlies, then back at Willa’s unyielding stare.

He snatched a red ink stamp from the rack, slammed it violently across the transfer papers with the word CANCELLED, and threw the clipboard across the desk.

“Take your mother and get out of my building,” Allison hissed, his voice trembling with venom.
