Chapter 19 - THE UNBROKEN CIRCLE

Two years passed in a blur of profound purpose, love, and community impact.
Shiomara’s Kitchen remained a legendary fixture in Chicago, while the Reyes-Vance Community Centers successfully expanded to twelve major cities nationwide, transforming thousands of lives and helping individuals step off the streets into stable, dignified careers.
On a quiet Sunday afternoon, Shiomara stood in the courtyard of the Vance estate, tending to a row of fresh herb pots she kept near the kitchen patio.
Eleanor walked out holding two cups of hot spiced tea, handing one to Shiomara before leaning against the stone balustrade.
“You know, Shiomara,” Eleanor said thoughtfully, watching the afternoon sun dip below the tree line. “Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if you had walked past us that night under the bridge. If you had kept walking, saving your food for yourself.”
Shiomara smiled gently, taking a slow sip of her tea.

“I couldn’t have walked past you, Eleanor,” Shiomara answered softly. “Because deep down, I knew what it felt like to be invisible. And nobody in this world deserves to feel invisible.”
Eleanor smiled, reaching out to link her arm through Shiomara’s. “Well, you made sure nobody in this city ever has to feel that way again.”
