Chapter 11 - THE RECKONING AT THE CLIFF

"SHUT UP!" Julian screamed, his finger tightening on the trigger. "I AM THE STERLING LEGACY! THAT BOY IS MY TICKET TO EVERYTHING!"

Before Julian could fire, a hidden EMP pulse emitted from the estate's perimeter towers. The electrical system of Julian's weapon and his vehicle instantly fried with a shower of sparks.

Alexander moved with blinding speed—a result of years of private physical therapy and combat training. Before Julian could react, Alexander closed the distance, grabbed the barrel of the rifle, wrenched it from Julian's grip, and drove a crushing right hook straight into Julian's jaw.

Julian crashed onto the icy gravel, coughing blood. Alexander stood over him like a vengeful god, his boots pinning Julian’s chest to the frozen ground.

"You thought Elena was weak because she was quiet," Alexander rasped, his voice dropping to a terrifying whisper as he leaned down. "You thought you could strip her of her dignity and throw her away. But she survived you. And now, she belongs to a world you will never touch again."

"She... she was mine!" Julian choked out, tears of pain and humiliation streaming down his face.

"She was never yours. You just possessed her," Alexander said coldly.

Sirens echoed in the distance. FBI tactical units and New York State Troopers—alerted by Victoria’s legal filings—were swarming up the mountain road. The game was officially over.

As federal agents swarmed the courtyard, pinning Julian to the ground and slapping heavy iron cuffs on his wrists, Alexander turned his back on his disgraced brother without a second glance.

He walked back toward the heavy blast doors of the manor.

As the doors slid open, Elena was standing right there in the entryway. The moment her eyes met his, confirming he was unharmed, she let out a choked breath, rushed forward, and threw her arms around his neck.

Alexander froze for a fraction of a second in pure shock before his arms wrapped tightly around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest. He buried his face in her hair, inhaling the scent of jasmine and warm rain, feeling her heart beating wildly against his ribs.

"I told you I’d be back," he whispered against her ear, his voice thick with emotion.

"Don't ever do that again," Elena murmured, pulling back just enough to look into his dark gray eyes.

For the first time in six years, Elena felt completely, unconditionally safe.
