Chapter 15 - THE VANCE FOUNDATION

The matte-black Mercedes pulled up to a grand, three-story brick building in the heart of Roxbury—just six blocks from where Harper used to live in fear.
The building had been completely renovated. Fresh white paint adorned the trim, large glass windows let in floods of sunlight, and a polished brass plaque gleamed beside the front oak doors.
Harper stepped out of the car, staring at the plaque in disbelief.
THE ELEANOR VANCE REFUGE HOUSE
A Sanctuary for Women and Children.
Harper’s breath hitched in her throat. Eleanor Vance was her mother’s name.
She turned to look at Gabriel, who was standing beside the car door, watching her reaction with an intense, quiet hope in his amber eyes.
"Gabriel..." she whispered, tears springing to her eyes. "What is this?"
"This was your mother’s dream, wasn't it?" Gabriel said softly, walking over to stand beside her. "You told me once that before she got sick, she wanted to open a community center for women escaping abusive homes. A place where they wouldn't have to choose between staying in danger or going hungry."
He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a silver key, placing it into her trembling palm.
"It is fully funded by the Ashford Estate," Gabriel continued. "Free medical care, legal aid, emergency housing, and childcare. And I want you to be the Executive Director, Harper. You gave yourself a second chance. Now you can give it to hundreds of others."
Harper looked at the key, then up at the man who had redefined the meaning of strength in her life. He hadn't just saved her from her past; he was honoring her mother’s memory and giving her a purpose that belonged entirely to her.
She threw her arms around his neck, burying her face in his chest as her tears soaked his shirt.
"Thank you," she sobbed softly, her heart overflowing. "Thank you, Gabriel. I love you so much."
Gabriel froze for a fraction of a second. It was the first time she had spoken those three words aloud to him.

A deep, emotional breath escaped his chest. He wrapped his powerful arms tightly around her, lifting her off her feet as if she were the most precious treasure in the world.
"I loved you the moment you bled on my floor and held your head high, Harper," Gabriel growled softly against her ear, his voice thick with emotion. "You are my heart. My home. My entire life."
