Chapter 17 - The Final Upload

Julian lunged forward with a desperate, feral snarl, reaching for the recorder in my hand.
I didn't flinch. Marcus stepped into his path with cold, calculated precision, sweeping his leg out and sending Julian crashing hard against the polished marble floor of the foyer.
Before Julian could recover, the heavy oak doors behind him swung open wide.
The blinding flash of red and blue emergency lights washed across the foyer as federal marshals—having bypassed the automated security alerts and arrived faster than anticipated—swarmed into the house, their tactical gear glistening with rain.
“Julian Vance! Stay down!” the lead marshal commanded, his weapon drawn as he pinned Julian firmly to the floor, snapping steel handcuffs onto his wrists with a sharp, echoing click.
Julian thrashed and screamed as they dragged him upward, his voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. “You can’t touch them! The network is global! You’re dead! You’re all dead!”
As they hauled him out into the swirling amber lights of the storm, the heavy front door swung shut once more, sealing out the wind, the rain, and the last lingering ghost of the conspiracy.
