Chapter 10 - The Hospital Infiltration

I drove back to Mercy General Hospital, breaking three speed limits along the way, my mind racing with a singular, terrifying focus. If the syndicate realized their empire was collapsing, they wouldn't hesitate to eliminate any loose ends—starting with my daughter.
I bypassed the main entrance, slipping through the loading dock service elevators just as the hospital’s primary power grid flickered and died, plunging the hallways into the amber glow of battery-powered emergency lights.
They’ve cut the power.
Moving like a ghost through the dim corridors, I reached the fourth-floor intensive care wing. Two local campus security guards were slumped unconscious against the wall outside Room 404.
Inside the room, the medical monitors hummed quietly. Standing over Nora’s bed was a tall man in a tailored dark suit, holding a sterile syringe filled with air, preparing to clear the IV line.
“I wouldn't do that if I were you,” I said, my voice cutting through the silence like a razor.
The man spun around instantly, drawing a suppressed pistol from inside his jacket with terrifying speed. But nineteen years of civilian life hadn't dulled the reflexes forged in Task Force Vanguard.
Before his barrel could level at my chest, I closed the distance, caught his wrist, and twisted it sharply with bone-breaking force. The pistol clattered harmlessly against the linoleum tile.
I slammed him backward against the heart monitor, my forearm pinned across his throat.

“Who sent you?” I demanded, my eyes burning with lethal fury.
The man choked, a cold, defiant smile touching his lips. “You... you can't stop what’s coming, Commander. The Meridian Group owns this city.”
