Chapter 3 - THE DEAFENING RECKONING

"Mikhail," Victor said. His voice was low, smooth, and laced with a terrifying, quiet thunder.
"Sir," Mikhail replied instantly.
"Call Dr. Vance. Have the emergency pediatric team at the estate in four minutes."
"Understood, boss." Mikhail pulled out a black satellite phone and rushed toward the private medical wing.
Victor slowly turned his head to face Serena.
For the first time since he walked into the foyer, Serena saw what lay beneath the quiet surface of Chicago's most dangerous man. His dark eyes held no warmth, no mercy, and no humanity—only an absolute, murderous promise.
"You said she dropped him?" Victor asked softly.
"Y-yes!" Serena stuttered, stepping closer and trying to grab his arm. "She was frantic, Victor! You know how these low-class girls are! She—"
SNAP.
Victor grabbed Serena’s wrist in a grip of iron.
Serena let out a sharp, ear-splitting shriek as Victor squeezed, bringing her down to her knees until her face was inches from his.
"The security feeds in this hall are linked directly to my mobile device, Serena," Victor whispered into her ear, his voice terrifyingly calm. "I watched you drag my son across the floor from the back of my Maybach five minutes ago."
Serena’s breath hitched. All the color drained from her face, leaving her ash-white. "V-Victor... no... please... it was an accident! He ruined my jacket—"
"My son’s life is worth more than your entire bloodline," Victor said coldly.
He released her wrist with a flick of his hand, sending her sprawling onto the stone floor beside the milk spill.
Without paying her another second of attention, Victor dropped to one knee beside Lily.
The ruthless mafia kingpin gently lifted Lily’s bruised head with one large, warm hand, while his other hand carefully cradled his injured son.
"Can you hear me?" Victor asked Lily, his voice dropping into a tone no servant in the Blackwood estate had ever heard before.
May you like
Lily blinked through her tears, looking into the dark eyes of the man the entire city feared. "Ethan..." she whispered, her throat raw. "Please... his arm..."
"He’s going to be fine," Victor promised, brushing a lock of dark hair away from Lily’s forehead. "You protected him."
