Chapter 4 - THE WITNESS AND THE PROOF

Within three minutes, the doors of the main hall were thrown open.

Four medical professionals dressed in blue scrubs rushed in carrying a portable pediatric gurney and stabilization equipment. Dr. Vance, Victor's chief personal physician, immediately took Ethan, applying an inflatable splint to the boy’s tiny arm while administering oxygen.

"The radius is fractured, Mr. Blackwood," Dr. Vance reported grimly after a rapid inspection. "He was pulled with immense force. But his vitals are stabilizing. We are moving him to the ICU unit upstairs immediately."

"Ensure the nanny is treated in the adjacent room," Victor ordered, standing up to his full height. "Full body scan, internal trauma assessment, and pain management."

"No!" Serena screamed from the floor, scrambling to her feet as two armed Blackwood guards blocked her exits. "Victor, you can't listen to a hired servant over the Montigue family! My father controls the port authorities! You need our alliance!"

Victor turned slowly. "Mikhail."

Mikhail stepped forward, holding a sleek black tablet. "Boss?"

"Bring up the audio feeds from the foyer ceiling mic."

Mikhail tapped the glass screen twice. A clear, crisp recording echoed through the high ceilings of the foyer:

“Touch him again and I’ll make you disappear. Nobody cares about a nobody like you. You think anyone will believe some cheap nanny?”

Serena covered her mouth, stepping back until her spine hit the grand staircase railing.

"The Montigue family alliance ends today," Victor announced, his voice slicing through the hall like a razor blade. "And by midnight, your father’s shipping firm will be liquidated."

"You can't do this!" Serena shrieked, her aristocratic composure completely shattering into ugly, hysterical sobs. "I am your fiancée! We are set to be married next month!"

"The marriage is canceled," Victor replied coldly. "Lock her in the basement holding cells. No phone, no visitors, no food until I decide how she pays for my son’s broken bone."

"Victor! VICTOR!" Serena screamed as two towering guards grabbed her by her arms, dragging her away toward the rear maintenance elevator. Her red heels scraped uselessly against the stone until the heavy iron doors slid shut, cutting off her voice entirely.
