Chapter 3 - THE EXILE

By midnight, the Whitmore estate had transformed into a court of public execution.
Victoria Whitmore, Richard’s daughter and the chief operating officer of Whitmore Global, called an emergency security team to sweep the house. Rather than investigating the scene objectively, Victoria—fearing a public scandal that could destroy the firm’s pending merger with an international syndicate—focused entirely on damage control.
Inside the formal study, Ethan stood beside a blanket-wrapped Sophia, who sat on a velvet sofa sipping warm tea provided by the house butler.
"He needs to leave," Ethan declared, pointing a finger at his father. "If he stays in this house tonight, I am taking Sophia to the press and filing a formal police report for criminal assault."
Victoria turned to her father, her expression cold, transactional, and devoid of warmth.
"Father," Victoria said flatly, "you need to go to the penthouse in Manhattan. Until we handle this quietly with the board and review the family trust's liability, you cannot remain on the Greenwich property."
Richard looked at his two children. He looked at Victoria, who saw her father merely as a corporate liability to be managed, and at Ethan, who was hopelessly ensnared by a woman he barely knew.
"You are making a fatal mistake," Richard said softly, standing tall despite the faint bruise developing along his jawline. "Both of you."
"Save it," Ethan spat. "I'm calling an emergency board meeting for tomorrow afternoon. Effective immediately, you are being stripped of your executive oversight. Sophia and I will be taking residence in the main house."
Richard didn't argue. He didn't raise his voice. He knew that arguing with a blind man about the light was a waste of breath.
He reached down, picked up his leather briefcase from the desk—the one containing the hidden audit reports Sophia hadn't managed to find—and walked out of the room.
As the estate's iron gates swung open to let his sedan vanish into the rainy Connecticut night, Sophia stood at the second-floor master window, watching the tail lights fade.

She picked up her phone and dialed a private, unlisted number.
"It's done," Sophia whispered into the receiver. "The old man is out. Ethan is taking total control of the voting proxy tomorrow."
