Chapter 4 - THE BOARDROOM COUP

At 2:00 PM the following afternoon, the glass-walled boardroom of Whitmore Global on Wall Street was packed with fifteen senior directors, major institutional investors, and legal counsels.

Richard Whitmore sat at the far end of the table in a tailored charcoal suit, his face unreadable, the small bruise near his jaw cleverly concealed with light makeup.

Ethan stood at the podium, flanked by his personal attorney. Beside him sat Sophia, dressed in an understated navy wool dress, her posture fragile, her expression demure.

"Members of the board," Ethan announced, his voice projecting across the silent room. "Yesterday evening, a severe domestic incident occurred at the family estate involving my father, the Chairman. Due to advanced age and unprovoked personal instability, Richard Whitmore is no longer fit to hold executive authority over Whitmore Global."

A murmur swept through the room.

"We are presenting a formal motion," Ethan continued, placing a stack of documents on the mahogany surface, "to invoke Clause 9 of the founder's charter—transferring executive proxy to myself, effective immediately, to protect shareholder value and secure our upcoming forty-billion-dollar merger."

Marcus Vance, Richard’s personal legal advisor for thirty years, stood up from his seat beside Richard.

"Your Honor—pardon me, Members of the Board," Marcus corrected smoothly. "Clause 9 requires a physical or mental incompetency certification signed by two independent medical examiners. A personal family dispute does not constitute legal grounds for a proxy seizure."

"It does when there are criminal charges pending!" Ethan snapped, slamming his hand onto the podium. "My wife was attacked inside our home!"

Richard slowly raised his hand, signaling Marcus to sit down.

The room fell dead silent as the seventy-five-year-old founder stood up. He buttoned his jacket, adjusted his cuffs, and looked around the table at the men and women he had mentored for decades.

"You want the proxy, Ethan?" Richard asked, his voice calm, deep, and echoing with absolute authority.

Ethan squared his shoulders. "The company needs modern leadership. Not a tyrant who thinks he is above the law."

Richard nodded slowly. "Then take it."
