Chapter 2 - The Architect of Shadows

Mr. Bell pulled a pair of reading glasses from his pocket, his hands shaking slightly as he slid the heavy parchment out of the envelope. It wasn’t legal documents. It was a ledger—a meticulously handwritten record of falsified signatures, shell corporations, and hush-money payouts spanning fifteen years.
At the top of the first page, written in bold ink, was the name of Eleanor’s late husband, alongside a co-signer whose identity made the hotel manager gasp aloud: Eleanor Vance-Bellamy.
“This proves the acquisition of the Bellamy hotel group was entirely fraudulent,” Mr. Bell said, his voice ringing clear across the lobby. “She didn't just steal the estate from the rightful heirs—she systematically framed her business partners, and when Clara, one of her lead accountants, tried to walk away with the physical proof... Eleanor hunted her down into the alley behind this very building.”
“You can’t prove I was there!” Eleanor shrieked, clawing at her pearl necklace until the string snapped, scattering pearls across the floor like tears.
“I don’t need to,” a cool, authoritative voice echoed from the entrance.
Three men in dark suits stepped out of the private elevator bank at the rear of the lobby. The one leading them flashed a badge bearing the seal of the State Attorney General’s Office.

“Eleanor Bellamy, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, obstruction of justice, and the homicide of Clara Vance,” the investigator stated, stepping forward with handcuffs ready.
Eleanor stared at the federal badge, her knees finally buckling. The invincible socialite crumpled against a velvet pillar, whispering empty denials to the empty air as the cold steel locked around her wrists.
