Chapter 12 - The Perimeter Breach

"Lucas?" Elena’s voice called from the living room, laced with immediate concern.
"Stay low, Elena! Move to the safe room now!" I barked, grabbing my night-vision visor and pulling my primary weapon from the concealed wall safe.
Through the green glow of the night-vision optics, I saw four thermal signatures moving rapidly across our wind-swept lawn. They moved with military precision, suppressing their footsteps despite the howling storm.
These weren't greedy relatives or hired thugs. They were professional mercenaries sent to liquidate a contract.
I reached the hallway just as Elena slipped inside the reinforced steel closet in our master bedroom.
"Lock it from the inside, sweetheart," I whispered, pressing my forehead against the cold metal door.
"Don't open it for anyone unless you hear my voice give the code."
"Lucas, please..." she whispered from the other side, her voice trembling but fierce.
"Kill them all and come back to me."

A second later, the front doors were blown off their hinges by a breaching charge.
