Chapter 8 - The Hidden Trust

Margaret didn't leave immediately. Instead, she reached into her coat pocket with a trembling hand and pulled out a worn, leather-bound journal.

“I know you hate me,” she whispered, dropping the journal onto the bedside table. “And you have every right to. But before you destroy us entirely… read this. It was your father’s ledger. The real reason your brother got mixed up with Meridian Holdings isn't just greed.”

Before I could answer, Margaret stood up unsteadily, cast one lingering, guilt-ridden look at the bassinet, and slipped back out into the hallway into the shadows.

For ten minutes, I stared at the leather journal lying untouched on the table. My heart hammered against my ribs. Finally, driven by an overwhelming sense of dread, I picked it up and opened the cover.

Inside were pages of handwritten notes, financial calculations, and bank account numbers dating back over a decade. But halfway through the book, a loose envelope fell out onto my lap.

Inside the envelope was a legal trust document bearing my late grandfather’s signature—and a massive financial disclosure that completely shattered everything I thought I knew.

The cybersecurity company I had built from my kitchen table, the one that made me my initial fortune… wasn’t self-funded through my own savings, as I had always believed.

My grandfather had secretly seeded the initial venture capital using a multi-million-dollar family trust fund.

And according to the document, the primary trustee who had legally controlled that fund until my thirtieth birthday wasn’t my father.

It was Viktor Vance.

My entire empire, my penthouse, my success—the very foundation of my independence—had been invisibly tethered to the syndicate’s financial web from day one. They hadn’t just tried to steal my home; they believed they were simply taking back what they claimed was theirs.
