Chapter 12 - THE BREACH AT THE DOCK

Before Vance’s finger could tighten on his trigger, a deafening blast echoed from the upper shipping bay!
BOOM!
The heavy corrugated iron doors of the warehouse exploded inward in a shower of twisted metal, sparks, and concrete dust. A massive steel-framed harbor tugboat, its horns blaring through the night rain, had rammed directly into the facility's water-level staging bay!
The shockwave shook the entire building foundation. Above, two of Victor’s guards lost their footing on the grease-slicked catwalk, tumbling over the railing onto the concrete floor below.
"What is that?!" Victor shouted, grabbing the handrail as the overhead floodlights flickered frantically.
Through the swirling cloud of dust and smoke, emergency strobes cut through the dark. Dozens of heavily armed tactical officers from the Federal Harbor Authority and State Police poured out of the breached staging bay, weapons drawn.
"FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS! DROP THEM NOW!"

Elowen didn't hesitate. She grabbed Julian’s arm, dragging him toward an old freight elevator shaft tucked behind the open safe. "The utility ladder! Now, Julian!"
Julian pulled his mother into the dark shaft just as Vance opened fire wildly toward the catwalk, dark gunfire popping amidst the screaming sirens and shouting tactical teams.
