Chapter 14 - The Iron Labyrinth

The interior of Warehouse B was cavernous, smelling of damp salt, old diesel, and raw steel. The only illumination came from a single halogen maintenance lamp suspended over a makeshift command desk in the center of the floor.

Surrounding the desk were stacks of encrypted hardware, server racks, and high-security communication trunks marked with the Zurich syndicate’s serpent crest.

“Clear!” Vance whispered into his comms unit, sweeping his tactical light across the stacked shipping containers that lined the perimeter.

We moved in a tight, disciplined wedge. Alexander and Elena stayed directly behind my lead security team, their footsteps muffled by the gritty concrete floor.

Suddenly, a sharp, metallic echo rang out from the catwalk overhead.

“We’ve been compromised!” Vance barked.

Before we could raise our weapons, heavy steel security shutters slammed down over the warehouse exits with a deafening crash, sealing the entire building. Simultaneously, floodlights blazed on overhead, blinding us with glaring white light.

From the upper catwalk, a tall, impeccably dressed man stepped into view. It was Director Vance—the aging, ruthless mastermind of the Zurich syndicate, holding a remote detonator in his gloved hand.
