Chapter 18 - The Sovereign Dawn

Three months later, the grand ballroom of the Whitmore Hotel was filled once again—not with the fearful tension of a corporate coup, or the cold suspicion of a masquerade, but with genuine celebration and recovery.

The corporate restructuring was complete. All stolen assets had been successfully returned to the public restitution pool, the sub-basement holding facility had been sealed and converted into a permanent historical archive, and the Whitmore Holding board had unanimously elected Elena as its Chief Executive Officer.

Alexander stood beside her on the dais, his arm wrapped warmly around her waist, watching as the city’s civic leaders and reformers toasted to a new era of corporate transparency.

From my usual post near the rear doors, I watched the glittering room with a quiet, satisfied smile. My daughter sat at a small table nearby, happily sketching pictures in a fresh notebook, completely safe in a world where the doors were finally locked against the darkness.
