Chapter 15 - The Last Stand at Pier 42

“Mr. Vance... and the supposedly deceased Mrs. Whitmore,” Director Vance’s voice echoed down from the rafters, cold and mocking. “How touching. A family reunion amidst total financial ruin.”
“You’re out of options, Director,” Elena called out, her voice ringing clear and steady through the cavernous space. “The global liquidity overrides were executed an hour ago. Every offshore node you control has been frozen by federal mandate.”
Director Vance laughed—a dry, humorless sound. “You think money is the only currency that matters, Elena? Money is just an illusion we print for the masses. True power is survival.”
He raised his thumb over the red button on the detonator. “If I can’t maintain the network, no one will. This entire warehouse is rigged with marine-grade explosives. In three minutes, this pier—and everyone on it—will sink into the harbor.”

Alexander stepped forward, shielding Elena with his body, his eyes locked on the director. “You won’t make it out either.”
“I don't need to,” Vance smiled, pressing his thumb down halfway onto the trigger mechanism as a warning beep began to chime rhythmically from the walls.
