Chapter 16 - Breaking the Grid

“Vance, cover the lower control panel by the eastern pillar!” I shouted, reading the electrical conduit runs tracing along the floor. “The explosives are wired into the warehouse’s local generator grid, not a satellite remote!”
Vance didn't hesitate. He sprinted across the concrete, diving behind a stack of crates as a burst of suppressed gunfire chewed up the concrete where he had been standing a second before. Two syndicate guards opened fire from the catwalk.
I raised my sidearm and returned fire with rapid, calculated precision, neutralizing the upper shooters before they could reacquire their targets.
“Boss, I’m at the manual override!” Vance yelled over the rhythmic beeping of the countdown timer. “The panel is hardlocked with a biometric scanner!”
Elena stepped forward past my shoulder. “Give me the override interface.”
She didn't flinch as sparks showered down from an overhead electrical box. With lightning-fast fingers, she bypassed the biometric lock using her master administrative clearance code—the very same code she had coded into the trust architecture a decade ago.

Beep... beep... beep—
The rhythmic countdown stopped instantly. The red warning lights flickered, turned solid green, and the heavy automated shutters on the warehouse doors began to slowly grind upward, admitting the cool, salty sea breeze.
