Chapter 16 - The Collapse of the Network

By 2:00 a.m., the executive conference room inside the federal building looked like a war room. Arthur Vance sat across from us, working alongside a team of cybersecurity experts who were systematically dismantling the digital infrastructure Bernice and Judge Harrison had built over decades.
My phone buzzed continuously on the mahogany table. It was a stream of automated security alerts: Account frozen. Asset seized. Warrant executed.
Judge Harrison had already been picked up by federal agents at his private residence downtown, caught attempting to shred physical bank statements in his home office. Simultaneously, federal marshals raided the private care facility in upstate New York where my grandmother, Margaret Vance, had been illegally held and medicated for over twenty years.

“They’re bringing her home, Christopher,” Arthur said quietly, looking up from a secure tablet with tears shining in his eyes. “Your grandmother is safe. She’s currently in an ambulance on her way to a top-tier medical center in Manhattan.”
I looked down at Savannah, who was leaning back in her leather chair, her eyes closed in exhaustion, a soft, relieved smile finally touching the corners of her lips. The nightmare was systematically being dismantled, piece by piece.
