Chapter 18 - THE REUNION AT THE RIVER
On a sunny Saturday morning in late spring, the wild jasmine bloomed along the riverbank at the foot of the valley—the very spot where Elena’s jeweled hair clip had been found twelve years ago.
The village had organized a spring festival to celebrate the reopening of the valley mines under fair, community-owned cooperatives managed by the Vance Foundation.
The entire village gathered near the wooden bridge. Townspeople who had once whispered in hushed tones about the "cursed Sterling family" now cheered warmly as Elena walked through the market square, holding Leo’s hand.
Little children ran past, dropping flower petals along the path, while the local band played lively folk melodies near the water's edge.
Elena stopped near the old willow tree at the riverbank. She reached up to her hair, where the original silver clip—now meticulously restored, its bent corner straightened and its pale stones polished to a brilliant shine—glinted under the golden sunlight.
She pulled the clip gently from her hair and handed it to Leo.
"Do you remember what this clip was for, my sweet boy?" Elena asked softly.
Leo smiled, his dark eyes shining with bright intelligence. "It was the key that brought us back to Auntie Julianna."

Leo walked down to the water's edge and held the clip up to the sun, watching the light refract across the ripples of the clear, rushing river. The place that had once symbolized tragedy and disappearance had finally been reclaimed as a sanctuary of hope and rebirth.
