Chapter 20 - THE SILVER WINGS REUNITED

Three weeks later.
The morning sun broke warm and bright over the peaceful coastal village of Tuần Châu. White clouds floated across a crystal-blue sky, reflecting off the calm, emerald-green waters of the bay.
Inside a bright, newly renovated stone cottage overlooking the sea, warm sunlight poured through open windows, bringing the scent of ocean air and fresh jasmine.
At the wooden dining table, six-year-old Rosy sat coloring in a picture book, wearing a neat yellow sundress. Beside her, Minh was working on a wooden model boat Captain Binh had given him, a bright, confident smile on his face.
Out on the sunlit porch, Linh and Mai sat together on a wooden bench, sipping hot green tea.
On the table in front of them sat a newspaper with a front-page headline: HIGH-RANKING SYNDICATE EXPOSED; DETECTIVE HAN AND 14 OFFICIALS ARRESTED IN FEDERAL RAID.
Mai leaned back, taking a deep, clean breath of the sea air, looking healthier and lighter than she had in years.
"It's really over, isn't it?" Mai asked softly.
Linh smiled, reaching across the table to lay her hand over her sister's.
"It's over, Mai," Linh said softly. "You're safe. The kids are safe."
Mai looked down at their wrists lying side by side on the wooden table.
Around Linh’s wrist hung the right wing of the silver angel. Around Mai’s wrist hung the left wing.
Mai reached over, bringing their wrists close together until the two small, worn pieces of tarnished silver clicked into place, forming one complete, perfect pair of wings under the golden morning light.
"Thank you for never giving up on me, Linh," Mai whispered, tears of joy sparkling in her eyes.

Linh pulled her sister into a soft, warm hug, watching Minh and Rosy laugh on the porch outside.
"We fly together now," Linh whispered. "Always."
