Chapter 9 - THE RANSOM AT PIER 4
"Where is she now, Minh?" Linh asked, her voice dropping into a razor-sharp, protective tone. "Where is Mai?"
"Last week, two men came to our house in the village," Rosy’s small voice chimed in from the back seat. She sat up, clutching a stuffed rabbit Linh had left in the car. "Mom hid us in the floor cupboard. We heard loud noises... and then Mom was gone."
"She left us the bracelet and the photo," Minh added, his voice breaking. "She told us if she didn't come back in three days, we had to take the morning bus to Ha Long and wait at the night market for a man named Captain Binh."
"Captain Binh?" Linh repeated. "The old ferry captain who works the island routes?"
Before Minh could answer, the sudden glare of high-beam headlights illuminated the dusty windows of the warehouse!
Two black SUVs smashed through the rusted chain-link gates of the pier, blocking the warehouse exit.

The doors of the lead SUV opened, and Detective Han stepped out into the rain, holding an open umbrella. Beside him stood two armed men in dark suits.
"Linh!" Han's voice boomed over a vehicle loudspeaker, echoing inside the cavernous warehouse. "I know you're in there with the children! Stop making this difficult! Step out of the car and hand over the boy and girl, and we can discuss your sister's release!"
