Chapter 19 - LILY’S EIGHTH BIRTHDAY

Four days after the storm, sunlight streamed through the tall windows of a cozy seaside cottage overlooking the blue waters of the Maine coastline.

The smell of fresh cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate filled the warm kitchen. Colorful birthday banners hung across the wooden rafters, reading: HAPPY 8TH BIRTHDAY, LILY!

Lily ran across the wooden floor in a new white dress, laughing as Julian—now officially cleared of all past charges and appointed as a private security consultant—helped her hang a final paper lantern on the porch.

Clara stood by the kitchen counter, watching them with a bright, genuine smile. Her face had healed, the bruises were gone, and the constant fear that had shadowed her life for eight long years had vanished like morning fog.

Julian walked inside, holding a small wrapped present. "The local school called this morning. Lily’s enrollment is all set for Monday. The principal said they're excited to have her."

"Thank you, Julian," Clara said softly, looking at him with deep gratitude. "For everything. Daniel would be so proud of you."

"Daniel was my brother," Julian said, his eyes warm. "And you and Lily are my family now. I’m not going anywhere."
