Chapter 19 - THE LIGHT INSIDE

One year later.
It was a warm Friday evening back in San Pedro.
The villa was filled with the lively sounds of music, laughter, and the smell of fresh grilled steak from the outdoor patio. Valeria and her family were visiting, while Mateo and his friends were laughing in the pool.
Daniel stood by the open glass doors of the living room, holding a glass of wine, watching Sofía sitting at the grand piano in the foyer, practicing a light, cheerful melody.
She wasn't afraid of the house anymore. She didn't look over her shoulder when footsteps echoed down the hall. Her lip was healed, her smile was radiant, and her spirit was vibrant and free.
Mateo walked in from the patio, dripping wet, wrapped in a towel. He threw a playfully wet arm around his father's shoulders.
"Hey, Dad. Are we still going camping in the mountains next weekend?"
"Of course we are," Daniel smiled, clinking his glass against his son’s water bottle. "I’ve already cleared my calendar for two whole weeks. No board meetings. No business trips."
"Good," Mateo grinned. "Because you suck at setting up the tent, and I need time to teach you."
Daniel laughed—a deep, genuine sound that resonated through the warm, sunlit home.

He looked around his house—the open doors, the sunlight streaming through the windows, the sound of his daughter’s music, and the laughter of his son. The scratches on the oak door in the hallway were still there, gleaming softly in gold, a quiet reminder of the dark night they had survived together.
The house was no longer a fortress of silence. It was a home filled with light, love, and an unbreakable bond that no lock could ever sever again.
