Chapter 4 - THE HOUSE OF SILENCE

The silence that settled over the multi-million-dollar villa was suffocating.

Outside, the rain began to pour heavily over the gated estates of San Pedro Garza García, the thunder drowning out any distant sounds of the city below. Inside, the grand house felt less like a home and more like a high-tech fortress turned upside down.

Daniel looked between Hector and Lucía. He was physically stronger than the lawyer, but Hector was cool, composed, and clearly operating on a contingency plan they had spent months refining.

"What's the end game here, Hector?" Daniel asked, keeping his voice low, angling his body toward the kitchen entry where he knew a secondary panic button was hardwired into the island—one that bypassed the local network entirely. "You kill me in my own living room? You think you can cover that up?"

"Don't be grotesque, Daniel. Nobody is killing anyone," Hector said, walking casually toward the bar cart in the living room and pouring himself a crystal glass of scotch. "You’ve had a mental breakdown. The grief of losing your late wife, combined with the crushing pressure of the international merger... it finally snapped you. You came home, attacked Lucía, terrified your children, and locked yourself in the house."

Lucía walked over to Hector, rubbing her bruised wrists, her face completely calm again. "We already have the psychiatric evaluation draft prepared by Dr. Morales," she added smoothly. "You'll be placed under a temporary emergency guardianship. I will sign the merger agreements on your behalf as your legal proxy."

"And the kids?" Daniel’s voice shook with suppressed rage.

"They will be sent to a quiet, specialized facility in Nuevo León," Lucía replied coldly. "Until they learn how to behave. Once the merger goes through and the estate assets are liquidated into our offshore trusts, you can have them back. In a few years. When you're 'recovered.'"

Daniel’s blood ran cold. It was a clean, bloodless execution of his entire life. They didn't need to murder him; they just needed to strip his sanity and lock him away in an institution while they dismantled his company from the inside.

"You forgot one thing," Daniel said softly.

Hector raised an eyebrow over his glass. "Oh? And what's that?"

"You built this legal trap using my company's infrastructure," Daniel said. "But I built the house."

Without warning, Daniel kicked the marble side table next to him. The heavy glass vase shattered against the floor, and in the same split second, Daniel lunged toward the wall panel concealed behind a decorative oil painting. He smashed his palm against the hidden manual override button.

Instantly, the villa’s automated emergency protocols activated.

Heavy steel security shutters slammed down over every window and exterior door in the house with a thunderous bang, plunging the floor into pitch darkness before the red emergency backup lights flickered to life. The automated system triggered a high-decibel intrusion siren that echoed violently through the structural frame of the building.

"What did you do?!" Lucía screamed over the deafening alarm.

"I locked us in," Daniel roared over the siren. "And the override code is in my head!"
