Chapter 18 - THE WEDDING ON THE HILL

The following month, on a glorious afternoon bathed in warm October gold, the parish church bells rang out in a joyous, triumphant peal that echoed across the entire valley.
The village church was packed to capacity, decorated with garlands of white roses, dried wheat, and vibrant autumn leaves.
Julian stood at the altar, looking dashing in a tailored dark blue coat with silver buttons. Beside him stood Toby, serving proud and upright as his groom's assistant, holding the silver ring tray.
The heavy oak church doors swung open, and the congregation stood up in unison.
Walking down the aisle on the arm of the town constable was Clara. She looked breathtaking in an elegant ivory lace gown, her dark hair woven with small white wildflowers. Her face radiated pure joy, her warm brown eyes locked onto Julian's with complete devotion.
Eleanor sat in the front pew, wearing a rich velvet dress of deep midnight blue—a gift from Julian. As she watched Clara walk toward her son, tears of overwhelming happiness streamed silently down her soft, wrinkled cheeks.
Father Thomas stepped forward, raising his hands over the couple.
"Do you, Julian Vance, take Clara to be your lawful wedded wife, to love, honor, and cherish through all the seasons of life?"
Julian looked into Clara’s eyes, his voice steady, deep, and ringing with absolute certainty. "I do, with all my heart and soul."
"And do you, Clara, take Julian to be your lawful wedded husband?"

"I do," Clara whispered, her voice overflowing with tenderness.
As Father Thomas pronounced them husband and wife, the church erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and happy tears. Julian pulled Clara close, pressing a soft, passionate kiss to her lips as the afternoon sunlight poured through the stained-glass windows, painting them in warm, sacred light.
