Chapter 6 - UNMASKED IN THE PANTRY

Grace stared at the man standing before her in the dim pantry light. The grease smudges on his jaw and the rough maintenance jumpsuit could not hide the sharp, piercing blue eyes and commanding posture that every employee at Whitmore House knew by heart.
"Mr.... Mr. Whitmore?" Grace gasped, rising from her stool so fast she nearly knocked it over. She backed away against the stainless steel counter, her hands pressed against her chest in shock. "You're... you were the man at the gate!"
"I was," Adrian said quietly. He pulled a clean linen handkerchief from his pocket and wiped the dark grease from his cheek. "And I heard every word Julian just said to you."
Grace’s mind raced, trying to piece together the impossibility of the moment. "The ragged coat... the broken boots... You walked into your own estate pretending to be a beggar? But why?"
"Because I built a fortress of wealth and fear, Grace," Adrian said, his voice laced with a raw, rare honesty. "I wanted to see if anyone in this world still possessed basic human kindness when there was no money or power to be gained from it. You proved that someone did."
Grace lowered her head, tears of overwhelming relief and residual panic spilling down her cheeks. "Mr. Whitmore, your cousin... he’s going to destroy my brother's medical care. He has Richard Vance in the library right now, and they're planning—"
"I know what they are planning," Adrian interrupted smoothly, taking a step closer and placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. His touch was firm, solid, and filled with an authority that instantly anchored her spiraling fear. "And I promise you on my life, Grace: your brother’s medical coverage will never be touched. In fact, starting today, his treatments will be fully funded by a private, permanent trust in your name."
Grace looked up, stunned. "Sir?"
"You stood up for a starving stranger at my gate when it threatened your very livelihood," Adrian said, his eyes burning with absolute conviction. "You spoke the truth about me when lying would have earned you fifty thousand dollars. I do not forget loyalty, Grace. And I never leave my debts unpaid."

Before Grace could process his words, Adrian reached into his jumpsuit pocket and pulled out a encrypted satellite phone. He dialed a ten-digit private number.
"Evelyn," Adrian spoke into the receiver, his tone shifting into the formidable voice of the billionaire titan. "Cancel my flight log to London. Activate Security Protocol Alpha. I need the strike team at the estate's perimeter by seventeen-hundred hours... And get my lead counsel on the line immediately."
