Chapter 12 - The Breach

Richter lunged forward with terrifying speed, his hand slipping inside his trench coat toward a concealed holster.
Conrad anticipated the move. He didn't hesitate, diving low and tackling Richter squarely in the midsection. The two men crashed hard onto the wet, oil-slicked concrete, the impact knocking the breath from Richter’s lungs.
The heavy steel handgun slipped from Richter’s coat, skittering across the pavement and splashing into a deep puddle near the bulkhead.
Richter struck out with a brutal elbow, catching Conrad across the jaw, but Conrad countered with a swift, punishing series of blows that pinned the syndicate operative flat against the ground. The rain poured relentlessly over them, washing away the mud and sweat.
“You... you have no idea what you’ve triggered,” Richter gasped, blood trickling from his lip as Conrad held him down by the collar. “The syndicate doesn't negotiate with local threats. They wipe them out entirely.”
“Then tell them to bring a bigger army,” Conrad said, pulling Richter up to his feet with rough authority and shoving him hard against the side of the black Mercedes.

Marcus pulled up in the truck just then, the high beams blinding the Mercedes as the passenger door swung open.
“The data transfer is complete,” Marcus shouted over the roar of the engine. “Every offshore node is locked down by federal order. They can't move a single franc without triggering a red flag.”
