Chapter 13 - The Unseen Hand

Conrad shoved Richter back against the car one last time, letting go with a look of absolute contempt.

“Take your car and go back to Zurich, Richter,” Conrad warned, his voice like grinding stone. “Tell whoever is sitting at the head of that table that the game they played with my family is over. If they cross into this county again, I won't just freeze their accounts—I’ll burn the entire syndicate to the ground.”

Richter stared at him, his professional composure completely shattered, replaced by genuine, unadulterated fear. Without a word, he scrambled into the driver’s seat of the Mercedes, slammed the door, and threw the car into reverse. Tires screeching against the wet concrete, the vehicle spun around and tore back up the coastal road into the pouring rain.

Conrad stood on the pier, watching the red taillights vanish into the storm. He wiped the rain from his face and walked slowly back to the truck.

“That bought us some time,” Marcus said as Conrad climbed into the passenger seat, slamming the door against the wind. “But Richter won't be the last. The syndicate protects its core at all costs.”

Conrad looked out through the rain-streaked windshield, resting his hand on the ruggedized tablet displaying the locked Zurich nodes.

“Let them send whoever they want,” Conrad said quietly. “We’re not hiding anymore.”
