Chapter 12 - The Master Ledger

“Talk to me, Arthur,” I said, keeping one eye on the guarded door of Abigail’s room.
“The ledger details a twenty-year racketeering ring,” Arthur explained, his face illuminated by the glow of his computer monitor. “The Fergusons didn't just buy local judges and police chiefs. They systematically embezzled municipal development funds, forged land deeds across three counties, and systematically bankrupted any business partner who threatened to expose them.”
“And Nicholas?” I asked.
“Nicholas was the front man for their illicit shell companies. But the mastermind behind the entire operation is Patricia. And right now, she’s doing something very dangerous.”
“What is she doing?”

“She’s liquidating every single asset they have left. Her private jet is prepped on a private airstrip outside Charlotte. She’s planning to flee the country before dawn.”
My jaw tightened. After everything they had put my daughter through, letting Patricia escape was not an option.
