The transport convoy tore through the perimeter gates of Pine Valley Aerodrome, smashing straight through the automated security arm without slowing down.

Ahead of us, bathed in the harsh amber glow of runway floodlights, a sleek Gulfstream private jet sat with its twin engines whining at a deafening pitch, ready for takeoff.

Beside the rolling airstairs stood Patricia Ferguson, her tailored designer coat whipping in the jet wash, clutching a leather briefcase to her chest as she watched our headlights approach. She froze, realizing the trap had snapped shut completely.

I stepped out of the Humvee, my uniform medals catching the flashing red lights of the federal vehicles, and walked slowly toward her down the tarmac.
