Chapter 8 - The Hospital Breach
The blinding searchlights of the military Blackhawk still illuminated the burning carriage house when my satellite phone shattered the night air. Abigail’s text message blared across the screen like an alarm bell: Mom... a man just tried to enter my room.
My heart hammered against my ribs. The federal raid on Oakridge Lane was a massive victory, but it had also flushed the remaining rats out into the open. Nicholas and his family realized their immunity was evaporating, and desperate men make catastrophic mistakes.

“Agent Miller!” I shouted over the rotor wash to the federal investigator standing beside me. “Secure Chief Vance and impound that ledger. My daughter is under active threat at St. Bernard Hospital.”
Miller didn't hesitate. He barked orders into his radio, and within seconds, a tactical transport vehicle screeched to a halt beside me. I vaulted into the back seat, slamming the heavy door shut as the driver floored the accelerator back toward the city.
