Chapter 11 - THE RETURN OF IRON ELEANOR

The automatic double doors of the corridor slid open.

Eleanor Vance rolled forward in her wheelchair, escorted by Commander Harris and four State Troopers carrying automatic rifles. She wore her black judicial robes, looking like an ancient queen arriving at a battlefield.

The hospital corridor went completely silent.

Richard Vance’s face drained of every drop of color. He took an involuntary step back, staring at the woman he had betrayed twenty-six years ago.

"Eleanor..." Richard stammered, his voice losing its arrogant edge. "You... you should be in court..."

"This is my court now, Richard," Eleanor said, stopping her wheelchair directly in front of him.

She reached into her robe and pulled out a thick, red-stamped warrant signed by the Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court.

"Richard Vance, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, racketeering, child endangerment, and the attempted murder of Arthur Vance twenty-six years ago," Eleanor declared calmly.

Richard’s lawyers gasped, stepping away from their client. "Your Honor, these are baseless accusations—"

"The encrypted USB drive recovered from the First National Bank manager's safe contained the original brake inspection report from Arthur's car," Eleanor interrupted, her eyes flashing with a terrifying, lethal light. "Your signature was on the hush-money payment to the mechanic, Richard. We have the wire transfers from 1998."

Richard panicked. He lunged toward the elevator, but Commander Harris grabbed him by the collar, slamming him face-first against the white wall.

CLICK.

The cold steel handcuffs snapped around Richard’s wrists.

"You're going to spend the rest of your miserable life in a maximum-security prison, Richard," Eleanor said, watching her brother-in-law struggle in handcuffs. "And the forty percent share of the Vance Trust? It transfers to David today."

As the state troopers dragged Richard Vance down the hallway, screaming curses, David turned to his mother.

Eleanor held out her hand. David took it, sinking to his knees, burying his face in her lap as twenty-six years of hidden pain, grief, and loneliness washed away in tears.

"Go save my granddaughter, David," Eleanor whispered, kissing his hair gently. "I’ll be waiting right here when you wake up."
