Chapter 18 - RETIREMENT OF IRON ELEANOR
A year later.
The main ceremonial courtroom of the State Supreme Court was packed to capacity with judges, lawyers, state officials, and community leaders.
Today marked the official retirement ceremony of Senior Presiding Judge Eleanor Vance after thirty-five years of legendary service on the bench.
The Chief Justice stepped up to the podium, delivering an emotional speech honoring Eleanor’s fierce dedication to justice, truth, and the law.
"Judge Vance taught us that the law without mercy is merely cruelty, and that true justice requires the courage to protect the innocent at all costs," the Chief Justice concluded, bowing his head. "We present her with the State Judicial Medal of Honor."
The entire courtroom stood up, delivering a deafening, five-minute standing ovation.
Eleanor, wearing a simple blue dress, sat at the front table flanked by David and Lily. When the applause subsided, she leaned toward the microphone.
