Chapter 5 - LILY’S SECRET

Every eye in the room snapped to the little girl sitting on the plush armchair.
Lily looked up from her glass of water. She reached inside her small pink winter jacket, which was folded on the armrest beside her. With small, deliberate fingers, she unzipped a tiny hidden pocket in the inner lining and pulled out a sleek, metallic black USB drive.
"Dad told me to give this to the lady in the wheelchair if he didn't come home," Lily said innocently, holding it out in her tiny palm.
Hayes made a sudden, frantic move toward the child. "Give me that!"
CLICK.
Before Hayes could take two steps, the chief bailiff drew his sidearm, pointing it directly at the prosecutor's chest. "Step back, counselor! Touch the child and I'll drop you!"
Hayes froze, his hands flying into the air, cold sweat dripping down his forehead.
Eleanor didn't waste a second. "Sarah!" she barked through the intercom. "Lock down this office! Call the State Attorney General’s Special Investigations Unit! Tell them Judge Eleanor Vance has physical evidence of judicial corruption and extortion involving the District Attorney's office!"
"On it, Judge!"
Eleanor reached across her desk and took the USB drive from Lily's hand. She plugged it into her encrypted terminal. Lines of code, bank account numbers, and scanned documents flooded her screen.
As she scrolled through the files, the horror of the conspiracy unfolded before her eyes.
First National Bank wasn't just collecting medical debts—they were artificially inflating interest rates on low-income families, forcing them into foreclosure, and using corrupt prosecutors like Hayes to fast-track legal seizures. Millions of dollars were being laundered through shell companies in the Cayman Islands.

And at the very bottom of the primary ledger sat a familiar name: Vance Property Holdings.
Eleanor’s heart stopped. The bank wasn't just a random financial institution. It was managed by the very same family trust that her late husband's estranged brothers had controlled—the same brothers who had bribed state social workers twenty-six years ago to declare Eleanor unfit while she lay in a coma after the car accident, stripping her of her son so they could consolidate the family fortune.
