Chapter 14 - THE REBUILDING OF HOME

Six months after the successful bone marrow transplant, the dark clouds that had shadowed the Vance family for twenty-six years finally dissipated.
Lily’s recovery had exceeded every doctor’s expectation. Her cheeks were now full and rosy, her laughter filling the halls of the historic Vance Estate—a sweeping, sunlit manor on the outskirts of the city that had once belonged to David’s father, Arthur.
Eleanor sat in her study, watching through the large bay window as David chased Lily across the lush green lawn. David looked completely transformed; the gaunt, hollow-eyed man in orange jail scrubs was gone, replaced by a confident, healthy father wearing a warm smile.
A quiet knock sounded at the door. Captain Miller walked in, carrying a thin leather folder.
"Judge Vance," the captain said respectfully. "The State Attorney General’s Office has finalized the asset restoration. The forty percent voting shares in First National Bank, along with the family real estate portfolio, have been legally transferred into David’s name."
Eleanor took off her reading glasses. "And the criminal trials?"
"Richard Vance and former DA Marcus Hayes both accepted full plea bargains this morning," Miller reported. "Richard was sentenced to thirty years without parole for fraud, conspiracy, and attempted murder. Hayes received twenty years for extortion and judicial corruption."

Eleanor looked back out the window at Lily, who was currently picking yellow dandelions to make a crown for her father.
" justice has taken a long time, Captain," Eleanor said softly, a deep sense of relief settling into her bones. "But it has finally arrived."
