Chapter 17 - The Secret in the Vault

The interior of the vault was astonishingly dry, illuminated automatically by an auxiliary generator that hummed quietly to life as the door opened. But it wasn't filled with gold bars, stock certificates, or historical deeds.

In the center of the concrete room sat a single, heavy oak desk. On top of it rested an old, leather-bound diary, open to a page dated twenty-two years ago—just weeks before their father’s sudden passing—and a sleek, modern, secure flash drive marked with a glowing red LED light that was actively blinking.

Margaret stepped forward, her heart skipping a beat as she read the final lines written in their father’s hand: “If you are reading this, Arthur has already made his move. The children are in danger. Do not trust the authorities. Trust only the network.”

Elena approached the desk and stared at the blinking red flash drive. She reached out, her finger hovering over the casing. “Maggie... look at the blinking pattern. It’s a live data transmission loop. It’s communicating with a server outside the country right now.”

Before Margaret could stop her, Elena gently tapped the top of the flash drive. A small holographic projection flickered to life above the desk, displaying a glowing, encrypted map of coordinates spanning across three continents—along with a rolling list of names, code words, and active bank accounts belonging to figures far more powerful than Arthur Vance.
