Chapter 5 - The Hidden Compartment

Arthur motioned to the guards. “Take the locket, and lock them both in the old cellar. We’ll finish this when the guests leave.”
Two men lunged forward, grabbing Elena’s arms. She fought back with a sudden, vicious strength, elbowing one guard in the ribs while sliding the locket off her neck and pressing it frantically into Margaret’s palm.
“Hide it!” Elena hissed, throwing herself at the second guard to buy a fraction of a second.
Margaret didn't run. Her fingers searched frantically over the back of the golden medallion. She remembered the hidden compartment the little girl had triggered earlier. Her thumbnail found a tiny, almost invisible seam along the hinge.

A secret micro-SD card—hidden beneath the inner lining of the locket—popped free into her hand just as a guard grabbed her arm, twisting it behind her back.

“Got it,” the guard snarled, ripping the outer locket from her hand and handing it triumphantly to Arthur Vance.
Arthur smiled, pocketing the hollow gold shell without checking its interior. “Take them away.”
