Chapter 18 - The Unwritten Future

The holographic light cast a cool, sapphire glow across the sisters' faces as the names continued to scroll endlessly upward into the dark corners of the underground vault.

It wasn't a conclusion. It was a beginning.

Arthur Vance had been merely a local lieutenant in a much larger, global syndicate that had manipulated their family’s legacy from the shadows for generations. The micro-SD card had dismantled the local tyrant, but this flash drive opened a door to a labyrinth that stretched far beyond the gates of the estate.

Upstairs, the federal agents were packing up their files, believing the case was closed and justice had been fully served. They had no idea what lay beneath the boathouse floor.

Margaret looked at the scrolling names, then turned her gaze to her sister. A quiet, ambiguous smile touched the corners of her mouth—neither fearful nor triumphant, but entirely resolute.
