Chapter 17 - THE REHEARSAL

Three months later.

The Grand Philharmonic Hall was bathed in the warm glow of stage lights. Fifty musicians sat in a semicircle with their violins, cellos, flutes, and brass, tuning their instruments in a soft, atmospheric hum.

At the center of the stage stood a magnificent Steinway grand piano, adjusted with a custom hydraulic lift designed specifically for Maya.

Julian sat in the empty fourth row of the auditoria, watching his daughter as she conducted a short warm-up run with the orchestra’s renowned maestro, David Chen.

"She has her mother's ear for tempo," Maestro Chen said, stepping over to Julian during a ten-minute break. "Most prodigies have technique, Julian. Maya has soul. When she plays The Symphony of Hope, it doesn't sound like notes on paper—it sounds like a conversation with someone she loves."

Maya turned her wheelchair toward the apron of the stage and waved at her father, her face lit up by a bright, radiant smile.

Julian walked up the wooden side steps and knelt beside her piano bench. "Nervous?"

"A little," Maya admitted, her small fingers tracing the silver-stitched initials on the hem of her new velvet dress—the exact replica of the initials her mother had preserved for twelve years. "Do you think Mother can hear us?"

Julian took her small hands into his own, pressing them gently to his heart. "She’s in every note, Maya. Tomorrow night, the whole world is going to hear her."
