Chapter 5 - THE FIRST MOVE

The heavy mahogany doors of the hall swung open, and Sarah stepped inside, holding a secure encrypted tablet.

"Mr. Sterling," Sarah reported, her tone crisp and urgent. "Your father has just called an emergency executive board meeting at the corporate headquarters for 8:00 AM tomorrow. He is filing an ex-parte motion to declare Maya's trust invalid on the grounds of minority age."

Julian wiped the tears from his eyes, his expression instantly shifting from a grieving father into a lethal strategist.

He looked down at Maya, who offered him a tiny, resolute smile.

"He thinks he's fighting a child," Julian said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, dark calm. "He doesn't realize he's fighting the two people whose lives he destroyed."

Julian reached down, gently taking the handles of Maya's wheelchair.

"Sarah, call our private legal council," Julian commanded as he wheeled his daughter toward the private elevator. "And tell the press that the new majority bloc of Sterling Enterprises will be holding a conference on the courthouse steps at dawn."
