Chapter 20 - THE UNBROKEN LIGHTBy 10:00 PM, the guests had departed, leaving the house in a peaceful, serene quiet.

Upstairs in the master bedroom, Maya was fast asleep in her bassinet, breathing softly under her cozy blanket.

Clara stood by the open window, feeling the cool night breeze ruffle her hair. Arthur walked up behind her, wrapping his broad arms gently around her waist, pulling her back against his broad chest. Clara leaned her head back against his shoulder, resting her hands over his hands.

"You know," Clara whispered softly, looking out at the starlit sky, "for a long time... I thought I was weak. I thought I couldn't protect Maya."

Arthur turned her gently in his arms, looking down into her hazel eyes with absolute devotion.

"You were never weak, Clara," Arthur said, his voice thick with emotion as he gently brushed a strand of dark hair from her face. "You survived the dark. You held onto our daughter. You showed me what real strength looks like."

He kissed her softly on the lips—a slow, tender promise of a lifetime spent in safety, love, and honor.

They stood together by the window, watching the warm golden light of their home spill out onto the quiet lawn below, knowing that no shadow would ever touch their family again.
