Chapter 7 - THE BOARDROOM SIEGE

At 9:30 AM, Arthur walked through the glass doors of his downtown architectural firm.

The atmosphere in the open-plan office was suffocatingly tense. Employees sat at their drafting stations whispering in hushed tones, while inside the glass-walled main boardroom sat Julian Vance—late fifties, impeccably tailored suit, sharp silver hair, and cold gray eyes—flanked by two corporate attorneys.

Eleanor sat beside Julian, wearing a dark navy dress, her expression pristine and composed, as if the brutal assault in the nursery sixteen hours prior had never occurred.

Arthur stepped into the boardroom, closing the glass door behind him. He didn't sit down. He stood at the head of the mahogany table, towering over the group, his broad frame casting a heavy shadow across their documents.

"Arthur," Julian began, leaning back with a condescending smile. "Glad you could join us. We can resolve this quietly. Your mother is willing to withdraw the financial injunction and cover your firm’s payroll immediately—provided you sign three agreements today."

Julian slid a folder across the table.

"First, Clara agrees to a voluntary surrender of primary physical custody of Maya to Eleanor due to documented emotional instability. Second, Clara checks into a private residential facility for post-partum treatment. Third, you sign over your voting shares in the trust back to your mother."

Arthur didn't even touch the folder. He looked at Eleanor, whose lips curved into a triumphant, razor-thin smile.

"Is that your final offer, Eleanor?" Arthur asked quietly.

"It is your only option, Arthur," Eleanor said smoothly, sipping her water. "You cannot pay your staff without me. You cannot pay your mortgage. You have no leverage."
