Chapter 11 - THE MORNING AFTER

By 7:00 AM on Saturday, Chicago’s media landscape was in a state of absolute frenzy.

Front-page headlines across every major financial outlet and tabloid broadcasted the same striking image: Giovanni Fierro holding Jessica Hale by the waist on the marble dance floor of the Grand River Ballroom.

Inside the glass-walled breakfast conservatory of the Gold Coast estate, sunlight flooded across a long table laden with fresh fruit, pastries, and black coffee. Jessica sat in a comfortable cashmere sweater provided by Elena, watching Lily happily color in a storybook across the table.

For the first time in five years, Jessica felt no crushing weight in her chest regarding unpaid medical bills or rent. Yet, the quiet morning was shattered when Elena brought in a silver tray carrying four glowing tablets.

Giovanni walked into the room wearing a tailored charcoal suit, his dark hair freshly styled, his presence instantly filling the vast conservatory. He picked up one of the tablets and tapped the screen.

"Your ex-husband’s firm lost twenty-two percent of its market valuation at opening bell," Giovanni said calmly, taking a seat at the head of the table. "Two major European pension funds pulled their liquidity after learning Fierro Enterprise Holdings froze Vance Capital’s credit line."

Jessica set her coffee cup down. "And my family?"

Giovanni gestured toward the screen. "Your sister, Sarah, tried to issue a statement claiming you stole family heirlooms prior to the wedding. My legal team filed a twenty-million-dollar defamation suit against her ten minutes ago. She retracted the statement within three minutes."

Jessica’s breath hitched slightly. "You don't hold back, do you?"

"I don't play defensive games, Jessica," Giovanni replied, his eyes meeting hers with intense focus. "When someone attacks my wife, the response must be absolute."

He reached into his jacket, placing an velvet jewelry box and an obsidian card on the table beside her plate.

"Inside is a seventy-carat emerald-cut diamond ring," Giovanni instructed. "And the card gives you unlimited access to my personal accounts. Today at 2:00 PM, you have an appointment on Michigan Avenue. You will no longer wear thirty-dollar dresses."
