Chapter 15 - THE SHADOW IN THE PARK

By 11:00 PM, the dinner concluded in overwhelming success. Three key board members privately pledged their full voting support to Giovanni before leaving the rooftop.
As the armored sedan drove them back toward the Gold Coast estate, the city skyline gleamed against the black expanse of Lake Michigan.
Inside the quiet backseat, Giovanni turned to Jessica. He reached out, his long fingers gently picking up her hand, holding it with a firm, genuine warmth.
"You took on Enzo tonight without hesitation," Giovanni murmured, his deep voice filled with unexpected tenderness. "No one has spoken to him like that in twenty years."
"He tried to disrespect my husband," Jessica replied simply, looking into his dark eyes. "I don't tolerate bullies, Giovanni. I spent three years letting Tyler walk over me. I will never let another man do it again."
Giovanni raised her hand to his lips, pressing a gentle, lingering kiss onto the back of her knuckles. "You are remarkable, Jessica."
A sudden, sharp movement shattered the quiet intimacy.
SKRRRRRRRRRRRT!
A heavy, dark delivery truck ran a red light at the intersection ahead, smashing directly into the front escort SUV of their motorcade. Explosive metal crunching echoed through the night.
"BOSS! DOWN!" Marco yelled from the front passenger seat, pulling his sidearm in a fraction of a second.
The armored sedan screeched to a halt as three masked men in black tactical gear leaped out from the back of the truck, raising automatic rifles toward Giovanni’s car.
Giovanni didn't panic. With terrifying speed, he wrapped his broad body over Jessica, slamming her down onto the leather seat beneath him, using his heavy frame as an impenetrable shield.

"Hold on to me, Jessica!" Giovanni growled into her ear as the first heavy thuds of high-caliber rounds slammed against the reinforced bulletproof glass.
Jessica gripped his shoulders tightly, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs, realizing that the three-year contract she had signed was not just a game of high finance—it was an all-out war.
