Chapter 13 - THE FAMILY DINNER

That evening, Giovanni hosted a private dinner at The Drake, occupying the entire rooftop penthouse overlooking the city lights.
The guest list was intentionally small: ten senior board members of Fierro Enterprise Holdings, along with two powerful city commissioners. Giovanni intended this dinner to be the official presentation of his new wife—a critical move to lock in his majority control before his forty-second birthday.
As Jessica walked into the private dining hall beside Giovanni, her hand rested comfortably in the crook of his arm, a hush swept over the room.
The board members, all elderly men in dark suits who had known Giovanni’s ruthless reputation for decades, looked at Jessica with deep curiosity and sharp scrutiny.
Sitting at the far end of the long mahogany table was Enzo Fierro—Giovanni’s uncle.
Enzo was in his late sixties, with silver hair slicked back, heavy jowls, and cold, predatory gray eyes. He was the man who sought to seize forty percent of the enterprise if Giovanni remained unwed.
As Giovanni pulled out Jessica’s chair at the head of the table, Enzo let out a dry, mocking laugh.
"So this is the miracle nurse from the South Side," Enzo sneered, cutting his steak with precise, aggressive force. "My nephew sweeps into a public ballroom and marries an ex-wife of a failing stockbroker within forty-eight hours. Tell me, my dear... how much is Giovanni paying you to play this little game?"

The entire table went dead silent. The board members held their breath, waiting for the explosion.
Giovanni’s jaw tightened, his hand dropping toward his coat, his eyes flashing with deadly intent.
