Chapter 12 - THE TRANSFORMATIONS

At 2:00 PM, a sleek armored sedan dropped Jessica off outside L’Étoile, the most exclusive private atelier in Chicago.

The moment she stepped through the brass-and-glass doors, three personal stylists bowed their heads in quiet reverence. Word of Mrs. Giovanni Fierro had already swept through the city's high fashion houses like wildfire.

For three hours, Jessica was wrapped in silk, cashmere, and tailored wool. The modest, weary nurse who used to shop off bargain racks was carefully replaced by a woman of breathtaking, regal elegance.

When she stepped out of the fitting room, she wore a midnight-blue structured sheath dress that hugged her slim build perfectly, paired with handmade Italian leather pumps that felt like velvet underfoot. Her long chestnut hair had been styled into loose, shimmering waves, accentuating her expressive brown eyes and delicate features.

As she looked in the full-length mirror, her phone vibrated in her leather handbag.

It was an unknown number.

Jessica answered, setting the phone to her ear. "Hello?"

"Jess... please don't hang up," Tyler’s panicked, desperate voice came through the line. He sounded completely broken, the slick confidence he displayed at the ballroom utterly destroyed. "Please, Jess... Vance Capital is collapsing. My father is going to strip my partnership if Mr. Fierro doesn't release the credit line!"

Jessica stood tall before the mirror, looking at her reflection.

"You called me cheap two nights ago, Tyler," Jessica said, her voice smooth, icy, and entirely unyielding. "You laughed at my shoes while standing beside my cousin. You brought this on yourself."

"Jess, we were married for three years!" Tyler begged, his voice trembling. "Have some mercy!"

"You showed me no mercy when you left me with Lily's hospital bills," Jessica replied coldly. "Do not call this number again, Mr. Vance."

She ended the call before he could speak another word.
