Chapter 17 - THE SECRET IN LONDON

Two weeks later, Daniel flew to London with Marcus and a small security team.
While the legal battle in Chicago was over, one loose end remained: Julian’s confidential estate in the English countryside, where Noah had lived during the first few months of his life before his mother passed away from illness.
The car pulled up to a charming, ivy-covered stone cottage in Surrey.
An elderly solicitor named Mr. Abernathy was waiting at the front door, holding a small brass key.
"Mr. Daniel Vance," Abernathy greeted warmly, shaking his hand. "Your brother left specific instructions that this house was to be opened only after the threats to young Noah were permanently neutralized."
They stepped into the quiet, dust-dappled parlor. Abernathy walked over to a heavy oak desk in the study and unlocked a small wall safe behind a painting.
Inside was a sealed velvet box and a handwritten letter addressed to Daniel in Julian’s sharp, familiar penmanship.
Daniel sat down at the desk, his hands trembling slightly as he broke the wax seal on his brother's letter:
"Daniel,
If you are reading this in Surrey, it means I am gone, but my precious Noah is safe in your arms. I knew Harrison and Margaret were closing in on me. I knew they would stop at nothing to take what wasn't theirs.
I left you the company because I knew you were the only one strong enough to protect it. But more importantly, I left you Noah because I knew you would be the father he deserved if I couldn't be there.
In the box is his mother's locket and the original deed to this home. Give them to him when he is old enough to understand how much he was loved.
Thank you, brother. You were my guardian angel.
— Julian"

Tears welled in Daniel’s eyes, dripping onto the yellowed paper. He opened the velvet box, looking down at the delicate gold locket containing a tiny photograph of Julian and a beautiful, dark-haired woman smiling happily with newborn Noah between them.
"I won't let him down, Julian," Daniel said softly, closing his hand around the locket. "I promise you."
